Jan, mine are in pots sitting on the ground with a light mulch of pine
needles. It has been near 0 F. I've never known it to get cold enough to
damage iris seed. That's over the last 15 years. Today will be the warmest
day we've had since early Dec.
I can't remember what that is in Celcius. I think it is around 32 below zero? I don't think deep freezing would cause any damage. After all, they are worried about live bacteria being released from melted polar ice, after hundreds of years in the deep freeze.
