RE: OT-BIO: Ronald Leger - Canada

Welcome Ronald,

For some reason, your message came through after a dozen replies to your
message. I was starting to wonder where your message went.

Sandy and I have been growing tall beardeds for about 15 years. We have
learned to plant them in July. They do much better than when planted in
August. If they are planted later than mid-August, they need to be mulched
for the winter.

As others have suggested, siberians do very well here. Borealiris in
Chelsea, Quebec run by Marc Boileau carries a large quantity of siberians.
However, he does not put out a catalogue every year. You might even want to
try some spurias. They take some time to get established here, but once
established they are wonderful. They are tall and bloom after the tall
beardeds.

Hello,

My name is Ronald Leger, and I live in Bedford, Quebec, USDA zone
4/5. I
am retired (66), and I live on a small riverside lot here in Bedford.

I have been "doing" daylilies for some time now. I enjoy hybridizing
and
the great expectations when a new flower is about to bloom.

I don't have any irises yet, and I would like to educate myself a
little
with the help of the experts here on this forum. My interest will probably
be directed towards the Tall Bearded irises because I like tall flowers.

In addition, I would like to make contact with Canadian vendors and
amateurs, and receive their catalogs when they are available. I understand
that I cannot plant any TB's before August.

This forum will surely be very enjoyable. Thank you for accepting
me.

Best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year.
May you all acquire the Irises you want in 2003.
