All,
I'm posting this for Dr. Waddick. This is open to everyone. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST! Sorry for the cross postings and the duplicates that you SIGNA members will receive!
Rodney
**********************************************
Dear SIGNA members and friends;
I have recently received fresh (2002), wild-collected Iris seed from researchers in Russia (Nina Alexeeva) and China (Shen Yun-guang). These were received too late for the 2002 seed exchange and rather than having them sit around until next year, I suggested that they be auctioned and planted while still fresh.
There are three sets of seed packets from 18 species as follows:
From Far East of Russia (including: Altai Mountains, Transbaikal region and Chita. Each packet will have collection location data.)
I. biglumis (may be I. lactea)
I. bloudowii
I. ensata
I. humilis
I. ivanovae ( Newly described may be I. tigridia)
I. lactea
I. laevigata
I. potaninii
I. ruthenica
I. sanguinea
I. tigridia
I. uniflora
I. ventricosa
I. sp. (may be a new species related to I. tigridia)
From Western China
I. bulleyana
I. chrysographes
I. delavayi
I. collettii
Each packet will contain at least 10 seeds except for a 2 or 3 that are in very short supply. These will have no less than 5 seeds each. Some packets will have 15 seeds. Therefore, each set will have a minimum of 180 seeds total.
I don't need to tell you how rare an opportunity this is!
Bidding starts at $50 per set of 18 packets. Send your bid in dollars (no cents please) by e-mail to rbarton@unt.edu.
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST!
High bids will be posted each morning (or more often as necessary) to the following url:
http://molly.hsc.unt.edu/~rbarton/Iris/Seed_auction.htm
Bidding starts now and will end at 12 M (midnight) CST 1/17/03. The 3 top bids win a set of seed packets. Ties will be accepted in the order received. Winners will be notified by e-mail and seeds will be sent ASAP after receipt of payment. Payment must be by check payable to SIGNA in $US. All proceeds will benefit SIGNA activities.
This auction is open to EVERYONE. Please share this information with SIGNA and AIS members or friends that you know with or without e-mail access. Please help those without e-mail place their bids.
Thanks to Rodney Barton, SIGNA Membership Secretary, for organizing the operation of the bid.
Dr. James W. Waddick
