Re: HIST: Iris germanica


There is only one site of wild grown Iris germanica in territory of ex-USSR
referenced in publications. It is on the Nort-west slope of Cherna mount
(Vygorlat-Gutin range, Carpathians), west Ukraine. Sorry a form of Iris
germanica is not indicated.
Here in Moscow one quite different from all another old irises is I.
germanica nepalensis (atropurpurea). I. florentina is obviously not hardy
here.
Traveling 600 km to east of Moscow I noticed that there in "vernacular"
gardens Iris germanica was replaced by local Iris aphylla, earlier common
there but disappeared now.
