I agree with both Neil and Walter. Like Neil, I would hate to see this
whole issue blown so out of proportion that Flight Lines is discontinued
as a Bulletin feature. I always look forward to reading Flight Lines.
Like Walter, however, I do feel it's important to acquire permission to
quote listers appearing in Flight Lines. This list is of very limited
value if people either leave or refuse to participate for fear of being
immemorialized in print in the Bulletin. I further agree that expecting
print-ready copy from listers in every post is both unrealistic and
contrary to the casual intent of the list.
What I don't understand is why this is becoming such an apparently
insurmountable issue worthy of causing an immediate and potentially
permanent cessation of Flight Lines. What's the big deal with obtaining
permissions? It's not like hundreds of people are being quoted in every
Bulletin, and everyone who posts to this list can be easily reached via
email. Good grief, if emailing permission requests to a few people each
quarter is something no one on the Bulletin staff has time to do, I'll do
it. Just tell me who and what you want to quote, and I'll take care of
the permissions. No big deal!
On to far more pressing issues - a newly adopted puppy daughter trying to
chew on computer cords ...
