"Sports" (but not football)

Hi everybody,

I've decided to stop worrying about looking 
dumb and ask a question.

I've seen references to "sports" now and then, 
and I don't really know what they are.  It 
looks as though they are rare alterations in 
the normal plant, both foilage and/or flower.  
But it also looks like the sports are 
distibuted too.  Are all chimeras sports?  

I tried searching the archives and didn't find 
too much, I thought I'd toss it out.
