If they change it, then it is no longer a quote from the original exchange.
True it may be an improved version. Or it might not. Knowing anything I
posted might be quoted would not change my manner of posting one iota. I
try, and often fail miserably, to get said what I want when it's posted.
That usually is in the context of an ongoing discussion. I fear that if I
tried to clean it up or edit a post outside of being immersed in the
thoughts generated by that discussion, then the quote would suffer. So I'd
probably give permission without changing anything. Else I'd feel compelled
to go to the archives and try to recreate the tone of the thread from which
the quote is taken. That'd take too much time, so any of mine that might
get quoted will be approved with all the warts in place. That being the
case, it's unnecessary for me to be sent a request for approval. I won't
say no and am unwilling to expend the effort I feel would be needed to
change anything. What would be nice, I guess, would simply be being
informed that a remark or post from myself was going to be used. It's
something of a jolt to stumble across those unawares. It's a mild shock,
though. As far as I've been able to tell it doesn't leave any long term
damage.
So that's my perspective, FWIW.
