Since it really is winter now, and we have to find ways to entertain
ourselves inside, I thought of something that might be fun to think
about.
One of the challenges I used to give myself when breeding Arabians
was to try and figure out which stallions were going to prove to be
an important sire. I had an overwhelming need to determine this
early on since as soon as a stallion was proven, his stud fee had
jumped well above my means.
Of course, it is a bit different in irises, once a good parent has
been identified, it is usually reasonably priced. The consequence
of waiting means that you have little hope of keeping up with the
leaders.
ROMANTIC EVENING has made its mark, and LOUISA'S SONG is proving to
be exceptional. Any predictions on the next "hot" parent?
Since I'm starting this, I guess I have to take a stab at this. I
would imagine that when we are running pedigrees in 10 years,
FOGBOUND will appear quite frequently. How's that for a safe
guess? I haven't seen enough seedlings yet to be more daring in my
predictions. I'm going to work on that this spring. Still have
another season to make crosses without any feedback from my
seedlings, and I will be VERY glad when I don't feel quite so blind.

that's pretty much all you grow
It's 2004 - time to gear up for November's Presidential election. Which candidate do you support? http://www.care2.com/go/z/election04
