Re: HYB: Predictions

Betty, as I understand it, a plicata *has to have* either a white or a
yellow/pink/orange ground. There aren't any alternatives. To get the effect
of a blue ground, one would have to have a very smooth plicata/luminata--we
used to call these "fancies" or "fancy plicatas," but I rarely hear that used
now.

A pale luminata with full plicata overlay is certainly possible. Getting one
where the luminata wash is very smooth is not impossible. That may be what is
showing in the seedling you have.

Regarding the blue beards, I am particularly fond of them also. My seedlings
from Swingtown X Romantic Evening all had vivid blue to blue-purple beards.
In the following generation the beards are either tangerine, vividly so, or
white, or pale blue. I may try some crosses with some of the near-whites with
blue beards to see how the beard color breeds in the next generation where the
other parent is *not* tangerine bearded. Romantic Evening apparently has the
genetics for both blue and tangerine beards and is capable of thowing quite a
variety of colors in its offspring and subsequent grandchildren, etc.
