Yes, and Yes.. <g> Plus some succumb to the 'molliegrubs' - slow fade
to nothing over several years' time.
Some of them do well - NIGHT GAME is as good as any I grow. Some do ok
the first year, then slowly dwindle. Most of his babies are vulnerable
to fairly serious damage from warm spells during winter and early spring
followed by sudden hard freezes (low 20s). Those that aren't heavily
damaged still often have stalks affected (stunted,. Plus a lot of them
don't seem to have the root system they need for our dry spells.
That's in my garden. Tinkering with mulch, pH, extra water, treating
for disease, protecting from weather changes would probably help a lot,
but there are other cultivars that thrive here without that.
