One of many new this year, thanks to the trunkload of stuff from Neil.
Looks good so far, but I don't like the form (how's that for being picky
- the darn thing thrives and I don't like how it looks???!!) <g>
Late bloom only avoids the late freezes, not the drought/deluge cycles
thru the growing season, which so many Blyth irises I've tried in the
past didn't tolerate. I'm optimistic about some of these newer ones -
those that I bought last winter seem to have done well all summer. New
theory - growing in Oregon makes 'em weak - they do better shipped in
early spring straight from Tempo Two's hot dry sand to my rock pile. <g>
And there is a different problem with the late bloomers - by the time
they open, the weather has often turned hot and dry, the gravel loses
moisture fast. Narrow window of opportunity, unless the weather
continues like it has the last two years.
I've had MASTERY for two (?) bloom seasons, no bloom so far. It is not
very happy here, but it's in good soil. Maybe I need to move it to the
gravel. I thought since it was introduced by Keppel, it would 'prefer'
good soil.
I was curious to try PLUME D'OR, but couldn't find it listed anywhere,
not even in Tempo Two. I asked here if anybody had grown it and got no
replies. You know anybody who has it?
I'm leery of POETESS - out of those brown Ghio lines that 'everybody'
says don't do well in our area. You know anybody who has it? Haven't
looked at POWER OF ONE. Most of the 'new' ones here are EM to ML's -
here's hoping....

<PLUME D'OR, POWER OF ONE, POETESS and several others are late bloomers.
MASTERY is late to very late. There should be a lot of stuff you could
use. Betty W. in South-central KY Zone 6 >
