It is amazing when I think of it just how much our club does. We do have
club orders yearly, which the club enjoys, we have members growing different
types of irises and sharing information about them to get others to try them,
we have gotten our new President all fired up, I am the treasurer this year,
we work on making new members feel welcome, we have local garden tours or rent
a bus to visit gardens up north a couple hours away, food is usually provided
at the club expense at those gardens, we have Region auctions yearly, and
occasionally we have round-robin discussions related to growing irises.
The photo contest is a GREAT idea, IMHO!!! I have been pushing for people to
photograph their irises more so we have photos to use at the fall rhizome
sales. Having a photo contest really is a good way to encourage more photos.
Thanks to all for the wonderful response. I look forward to more!
Patrick

Patrick, one thing that some area groups or clubs have done is to place a
group order to Tempo Two, Barry, Leslie Blyth and family.

Patrick,
If the club only focuses on TB iris you might try introducing medians,
ABs, species, siberians spurias or whatever other iris will flourish in
your area.

You need a fired up president with ideas.
I'm assuming you are a new president.

Patrick does your group put out a news letter? If yes
have you tried an Isis photo contest with the winners
getting their Iris pic. in the news letter. say 1st
2nd and 3rd. along with a little write up on the
winners gardening activities. You would strike a Small
committee of your members to be the photo judges.

I try to adapt ideas that are successful from one club and use them in
others.

When you do get new members, make them feel welcome.

Local garden tours for our own membership -
Also, we are lucky to have 2 professional auctioneers in our membership.
but the very best programs are when there is a good deal of "audience"
participation
