RE:Hyb: Cytoplasmic inheritence was disease resistance


I had one part of that reproductive process backwards:

The male gametophye emerging from the pollen grain sends down a tubule to the
ovular complex, which is an eight-celled structure.  In the largest of these
cells, one of the male sperm (DNA transporting) structures unites with the two
polar nuclei (also DNA transporting)  from the female parent to form the 3n
triploid endosperm.

The other sperm nucleus unites with the ovule gametophyte to form the zygote
from which the future embryo develops.

In our modern tetraploid hybrids the behavior seems to proceed as if the plant
were diploid.

I had which contributed the double dose of the DNA to the endosperm backwards.
