offlist-- as if!!

As if I'm going to know any of that ahead of time from any of the new
stuff that lands here!!

Is ROMANTIC EVENING "good"? Stalks are about 2 ft tall, at best, bud
count is about 3 if I'm lucky, it lasted a remarkable 3 yrs before
dwindling to a tiny nubbin that I rescued and moved to a pot of dirty
perlite last fall.

Is descendant SHARPSHOOTER "good" or "better"? Have had it two years,
frozen out the first year, stalk a foot tall 2005, two blooms, both with
fertile pollen.

Is DIGNITY DANCER "good"? Gorgeous two stalks 2005, fertile both ways,
normal height, bud count, branching, moderately healthy foliage, ....
bloomout!! And drat it all if I didn't damp off all the germinants from
it with IMM! At least I have survivors (later germinating) from it with
IC1.

I assume anything coming from GKB has good plant qualities other than
health, or if not, they mention it in the catalog, so if it lives long
enough & is fertile, I will use it.

But maybe I "should" be waiting until I've tried to grow these things
for several years (i.e, long enough to evaluate health) before using
them in crosses.

Then again, there are things like SEAKIST and EDITH that barely live (if
at all), but can produce incredibly healthy kids. ROM EVE seems to be
one of those.

Maybe I should post all that. Tomorrow maybe.

The health goal is so overwhelming at times, so I just go for fun.

<<Currently, I'm more likely to try the cross again with a "better"
descendant of the pollen parent. I have <no> idea
which approach would
be better to reach my goals.>>
                   ______________
When health, branching, bud count and all are equal
(and good), use the iris
that comes the closest to matching your goals for
form and color.
