in handy.  It falls just short of Hungarian, however, which has long 
umlauted vowels as well as short ones.  This site provides the short umlaut 
(v), but not the long one, which is depicted by two slanted diacritical 
marks above.  I suppose, if one wanted to do so, the "o" with a tilda (u) 
could be used, and the reader of Hungarian would understand.  Unfortunately,

there is no corresponding ALT CODE symbol for the long-umlauted "u".  What 
these two long umlauts do (and they are only found on the "o" and the "u") 
is signify that the vowel sound is prolonged.  Thus, the word for apricot is

"barack" (pronounced bor-atsk), and the word for peach is (using the tilda) 
uszibarack, which gives a nice, juicy "ooessi" sound to it.  I must confess 
that certain sounds simply cannot be perfectly transliterated into English, 
and the latter is one of them. --  Griff
