I know we don't mulch the irises but some people do use it in other parts of
the garden and on pathways.
Pine straw is quite commonly used to mulch beardless irises. I use it to mulch my beardless, but I just run up to the pine plantation at the end of my township road and rake up all I need. No fire ants here, thank goodness!
