Thank you for the tip on the Murphy's in solution.  Will try that if I get more borers in that bed, but do plan on applying Merit.
   
  I have wondered if the aroma of the alfalfa might attract the moths.   There is enough correlation observed here that it would be worth setting up a more controlled test, but somehow I am not excited about doing anything that could increase what has only been a minimal problem here so far.
