Re: HYB: Lace

Mary Lou, thanks for the tip.? I was over there earlier, after Linda mentioned their collection, but I didn't look at the seedlings.

The Laced Cotton and Diamond Lil seedlings are very interesting.? Also interesting that I moved a piece of Diamond Lil up to the new breeder bed.? Was planning to try for a red bearded white rebloomer.? Christmas Rubies is my all time favorite of the class but it doesn't want to grow here.? Once had a rebloomer from it. At Alvaton.

Yes, I will?need to cross her with Love Lines.? I plan on using her (LL) a lot more this year.??Both are late season.?

Laced Cotton is in two of my irises, Vanishing Act (plicata) and Softly Renewed.? LC is a plicata and does breed plicata when used with one.? Also, reblooms in warm climates.? Don't know where plicata comes from in the Diamond Lil linage.? Will have to check.?

I'm still on dial up and the new system seems to download pictures even slower than the old system.? Maybe I'm just growing more impatient.? Had to give up on the seedlings over there.? Maybe another day.?

Spent a lot of time today looking for chrysanthemum seed on the Internet.? I wanted a collection like I bought from Parks several years ago.? I got?spiders and recurved and the like from seed.? Beautiful.? No luck.? Don't want the daisy looking ones.?

Should see Peaches And Dreams this spring. Prime Power looked
wuuunderful at OKC. Tall.

Only have 2 bloom-size seedlings with Vienna Waltz as pod (with Pink
Attraction). They didn't bloom last spring and are not increasing well so
far. On the up side, the handful of seedlings that bloomed from Painted
Pictures X Vienna Waltz had PP vigor and much improved substance.
Not a cross for lace. VW blooms so late, you have to freeze pollen and
wait until next year, (or summer rebloom).

Had 2 from Silk Romance X Pink Attraction that bloomed stunted and
early last spring. White one and pale pink one, fat, dark pink beards on
both. Gorgeous blooms, heavy lace. Had increased well, but most of both
clumps rotted during the disaster. Actually have some hope for them,
since many of my rebloomers did the same.

Hard to find anything with lots of lace that grows well here. Usually
short with 2 or 3 buds, wimpy. A pleasant surprise here has been New
Age (Mohr 92) 36" M Added Praise X Grand Waltz. Second year bloom
last year, had all it's branches, good substance, enough vigor to combat
2 years of a strawberry invasion. Set 2 pods on it.

Pink Pincurls bloomed here first time last spring. No pollen. Tried like
the dickens, but didn't get a pod either. Nice and big, acceptable bud
count. Good substance. Liked it a lot. Unique color in the pink class.

As for me, no such thing as too much lace as long as it can open.
