HARD CHOICES

Sitting in the house again
It's bitter cold outside
Wondering what spring will bring
From crosses I have tried

Tending pots of seedlings
In every sunny place
When it's time to plant them out
Where will I find the space?

The oldest seedlings have to go
I simply must make room
If they're not really great this spring
Then it will be their doom

One more spring to see them
Then they will get plowed under
This year's sprouts must go in there
But, still, I'll always wonder

How many have I composted
that didn't rebloom here?
How many could have, farther south?
Or in a better year?

Could they rebloom somewhere else?
I guess it doesn't matter
Rebloom there or rebloom here
I'll always choose the latter.
