So you see...while I am a rabid Facebook user, why we could
be missing a good number of our irisarian friends because they do not like
Facebook (with good reason). I also know Nancy the ROOTS editor does not go on
Facebook either.
People like Shaub and Nancy who are active community irisarians,
(irisarians who like to network ) should not feel obligated to join a social
network (that in and of itself has nothing to do with irises) that they do not
feel comfortable with, just to talk to other irsarians.
As a first step, how many of the other iris groups affiliated with AIS
(and perhaps including groups like NZIS, BIS or international recognized
iris groups) would be interested the idea of an iris mega forum?
I am trying to think this one out: If one goes to the HIPS forum (that
narrow little portal where you have to use your HIPS ID to get in) you are
sent to a 'mega forum entry hall'- telling you that you were redirected (off
the HIPS website) to a mega forum and from there, you can choose to
continue to the HIPS forum room or you can choose to go to another
section/groups forum room. If you have paid your dues to get into the HIPS
forum, you get access to every other forum, and vice versa. To gain access to
the mega forum and all their rooms, one has to be a paying member of some bona
fide AIS recognized iris group or section. This would not be one giant forum
with threads for the different groups, but each Forum 'room' would be
designated for a particular group to monitor and maintain. Those sections or
groups that do not currently have forums can opt in if they choose, and are
willing to provide monitoring and some cash for development and upkeep.
Well that is my vision for the future anyways.
