I'm disoriented here, which is nothing new. :) Linda, are you conceptualizing the idea Bob Pries is talking as somehow directly connected to hort.net? And Bob, you the same question vice versa. I thought Bob's idea was a bulletin board / forum concept, not a mail list. (Which if true, indicates the subject line on this thread is misleading.)
Again to make sure I am oriented crystal clear, Bob, your concept is independent of hort.net and hort.net is independent of your concept? No one is proposing any change to hort.net? hort.net is a non-issue vis a vis your concept? Except for the misleading subject line. lol
Linda, you have mentioned the capacity for searching on the hort.net archives a few times now. Yes, that's a great feature. But bulletin boards / forums have the same capacity. I don't know about Yahoo Groups or Facebook. The other forum, All Things Plants, Dave's Garden etc have this search capacity as well. I'm not sure I have ever seen a forum that didn't.

One more thought - two of the features I love about hort.net lists is that they are so much easier to join and have fewer strange hiccups than some others (i.e., yahoo groups); and that the messages are archived with a search function.
Some folks did <not> like the idea of their comments being preserved for posterity, but I think having that feature adds some accountability for what people say.
Gesine, why do you not want the groups you moderate on hort.net? I assume there is some reason you chose not to migrate here. Is it because you would no longer be the moderator?
