The North Mississippi Lakes Iris Society is planning to have a
youth division in its spring show. We have not had such a division
before. My question is where do I insert the Youth Division in our show
schedule and what information should this insert contain? Right now in
our show schedule, which we have had approved and have used for several
years, we have two roman numerals. Do I make the Youth Division roman
numeral III?

According to the Judges' Handbook:
"YOUTH DIVISION"
Exhibition privileges in the Youth Division are limited to persons undesr
19 years of age. Classes should be provided for youth exhibitors in all
divisions. These exhibitors may enter eiether the Youth Division or the regular
Horticultural Division, but never in both at the same show. Youth Divisions
with many entries may be subdivided into classes by age, and all such
entries are eligible for "best specimen of show" award.
It seems, then, that the show schedule would indeed have a Division IV (or
some number) with the same classes as the Horticultural Division (classes
for builbous irises, collections, English boxes, and seedlings are encouraged
--says also in the handbook, which spells bulbous correctly--
On the other hand, a show schedule I have here from the Pittsburgh Iris and
Daylily Society & AIS 44th Annual Free Iris Show has a Section G , Novice Class
which is open to anyone who has not recieved a blue ribbon in any iris show.
I'm interested in this topic because, as Youth Chair for our Region 2, I want
to help get the several youth members of the Region involved in all aspects
of irising, especially in the shows since that's a way our WNY area has
found new youth members.
One way of interpreting the rules and regulations would be that the Youth
Division should have its own Chair, sections and even sub-divisions of, say,
seedlings and artistic designs.
