Unidentified varieties

In my mom's iris garden, she has MANY unidentified varieties, some of
which are at least 50 years old. (She received rhizomes from her
grandmother, and also salvaged several from the lawn of an old home
that was being torn down to build a store. Most of these are TB,
although she also has some IB, BB, and MDB varieties. She also has
Japanese iris, and some reticulatas, but I planted these, and so know
     their varieties.

In fall '97, I will be dividing several of her beds, and transplanting
some rhizomes to my new home. I would like to identify as many
varieties as possible. What are the best methods, resources, etc. for
     me to use?
