Greetings,
I am not learned in the issues of remontant bearded irises, but as I see it,
these factors may be relevent to the bud on CHANGE OF PACE here in Richmond,
VA, which is Zone 7.
1) We have had an astonishing amount of rain this year.
2) The plant is sheltered, but receives direct sun most of the day and
reflected heat from nearby masonry walls and paving.
3) This selfsame masonry may be a source of gradual lime release into our
normally mildly acidic soil.
4) No fertilizer, but the ground was turned well and some humus added at
planting.
5)We have had a brisk autumn with quite cold temperatures and frozen ground
for several days, and have just had about four days with temperatures around
70 degrees and mild nights.
6) There has been some rebloom on some historic irises in the neighborhood.
Seen from a moving car they looked like Sangrael, a thirties white, and
something of the tribe of Alcazar.
In any case, cold temperatures are back, and I do not anticipate completed
bloom.
