Diana,
Add to this Pacific Coast Natives. I grow two which have purple based
foilage Susie Knapp and Chimes.
As for purple based foilage I believe this is a gene passed on from some
species and probably has nothing to do with hardiness. How else would
this explain my having at least two varieties, Lemon Custard and Solano
which have purple bases and are almost tender here in Zone 8.
