Iris florentina is the iris most often cited in herbals, but Christopher is
quite right that Iris pallida (and I. germanica) are most commonly used in
Italy today. But I will provide a footnote to this. The form of Iris pallida
used is not the iris grown under the name PALLIDA DALMATICA. The iris grown
in gardens under that name has been known since the time of Dykes to be a
