Re: The commercial nursery


This is a marvelous thread filled with great information about how irises
are grown commercially and some real-world wisdom about business (Dennis
Hager).

My friend who operates a garden center in the neighborhood can vouch for
the idea that it only sells if it is in bloom--thus he stocks few
perennials and focuses on 4-packs of annuals already showing bloom.  Of
course, they are liable to be crowded and partly stunted by the time they
bloom in the tiny 4-paks, but that's what sells.......

And the observations on hobbyists going into business exactly fits the
experience of another friend who decided to open a bonsai shop.....
