Re: e-mail for the Bulletin

I won't try to repeat all of what has been discussed already. In summary:
there was a suggestion to submit excerpts from IRIS-L to the AIS Bulletin,
discussion of including "negative" issues, obtaining author's permission
before reprinting what they sent to IRIS-L, and whether or not these should
be part of the Flight Lines articles.

I had discussed this with my dad when the topic was raised on IRIS-L last
year, and he would welcome well written excerpts from IRIS-L. We were
talking about it being part of the Flight Lines at the time, but it would
not have to be, and on further examination, probably should not be.

On the subject of including negative as well as positive comments, I know
that when my dad was asked to be the AIS Bulletin editor, he was given a
lot of strong feedback that there was too much negative content in the
Bulletin, that it was turning some people off from the AIS, and that he
should editorially tone it down. Apparently there are differing opinions on
this. I know my dad to be a thoughtful, tactful, and kind person generally,
so I would guess he is inclined toward making the Bulletin a positive
publication overall. I think it would be unfair if someone were to submit
something to him and demand that he not edit anything negative.

Obviously, we would need permission from the original authors before
reprinting their posts, but I think that would be fairly simple to do.

And since this is not an "official" AIS sponsored list, and certainly not a
formal Robin, it would probably be most appropriate as a separate article.
That would make it easier, I would think.

As a practical matter, if we are going to have some kind of article from
this list in the Bulletin, it would be far easier for me if whoever puts it
together could just email it to me, rather that submitting it in written
form. That way I do not have to retype it. :-)

I eagerly await submissions. Denis? (you started this. hehehe)
