Hello Margaret from fellow new member Jeff Walters in Utah!
My guess about the identity of your fragrant, old iris is that it is Iris
pallida, a natural species native to southeastern Europe, that is one of
the ancestors of the modern hybrid bearded irises, and was widely grown in
pioneer gardens. It is most widely grown today in its variegated leaf
forms, "Zebra" and "Argentea".
