Botrytis Control Methods

Merle Roberts:

Thanks for your suggestions on controlling Botrytis (Winter Rot) contained
in your reply (26 Jan 97) to my introduction of myself as a new subscriber
to IRIS-L.

It sounds as if you have a well thought out program to deal with this
problem and the experience to back it up. If you read all the way through
my Intro, you may have noticed that I am also an iris newsletter editor. I
hope I may have your permission to repeat some of your suggestions in print
(with proper acknowledgement, of course).

Some of our most ardent local irisarians have lost so many rhizomes to
Botrytis that they feel ready to give up. I am afraid that it is going to
be a particularly bad year for Botrytis, as we have had milder than usual
weather since Christmas with several partial thaws - ideal conditions for
Botrytis growth.
