Re: Naming Iris


My recommendation for naming an iris to show its eccentricity does not mean
the abandonment of good qualities. But it does warn potential buyers to
beware, if the characteristic is unpleasing to them.  For me, the iris must
have a pleasing name.  Forty years ago I stubbornly refused to grow , or to
breed with TOBACCO ROAD.  A bit extreme,, perhaps, but I do not want
unpleasant thoughts to distract from the pleasantness of an iris garden.
