<< Can anybody tell me whether there are Japanese (or Siberian, or species)
iris gardens in Oregon? or maybe nearby in Washington? Also, what time of
the year they would be in bloom, since I will have to take my
photographer (my husband) along to get some great shots as material for
the paintings. >>
There are some of the most beautiful Japanese and Siberian irises in the
world in Washington and Oregon. Several were on the convention garden tours
three years ago at the Portland convention. Tom and Ellen Abrego's garden is
beardless iris heaven. Terry Aiken's is wonderful, too. Lorena Reid near
Springfield, Or is one of the largest in the world and she has probably the
most varieties of anyone. Terry Aitken's address and phone are of course in
the AIS Bulletin, of which he is now editor. Lorena Reid's is 41886 McKenzie
Hwy, Springfield, OR 97478. Tom Abrego's is 19105 NE Trunk Rd, Dundee, OR
97115.
There are quite a few others than the ones I have identified, but if you
contact the ones I've given I am sure they can direct you to those which
welcome people to come and take pictures of the irises---most iris gardeners
welcome visiters, I've found. Have fun, and enjoy the beauty. I admire your
work, and I look forward to seeing your marvelous talents brought to the
world of beardless irises. Cheers, Clarence Mahan in Virginia
