When I was in northern Illinois last year to give a presentation on historic
irises, I was presented with a small soft-cover books entitled Iris Growers'
Handbook by Florence Stout. I was also fornunate that Florence Stout was
present at the meeting to autograph the book for me. Florence is almost an
institution in AIS. She has labored in many jobs for many iris groups, and
held many demanding offices in the AIS sections. She was the person who
first assembled the Cumulative Check List of Japanese Irises, a monumental
undertaking. And she is a lovely lady, too!
Iris Growers' Handbook (Lombard, IL, 1996) is 146 pages. A nice little book
that is a quick education for iris beginners. It can be obtained directly
from the author for $10.00 ($9.00 + $1.00 shipping), by writing to Florence
