CULT: Frozen Irises


Kathy,
     I think that you will get a quite high survival rate in those potted
Iris setosa plants.  Some parts of their native range have unreliable snow
cover (or snow blown away) yet they still survive.  Burying them in the
snowbank was the best thing you could do. 
      When the snow melts next April/May, it will give them some moisture. 
However, like Duane said, snow has a low moisture content, so watch for
drying soon after.  
     When I lived in Kentucky, we had very large temperature swings.  If
plants that were not dormant in the fall got froze severely then, they
would survive.  The only times I lost plants to freezing was in the spring,
when they were putting up lush new growth, then got zapped.
