McKay was one of the later introductions by Utah's late, great hybridizer
(and lady), Melba Hamblen. It was introduced in 1989 and is described as:
Ruffled, lacy brilliant pink (RHS 38D) with slightly lighter toned falls
and cerise beards (RHS 30B). The large blossoms are beautifully formed with
cupped standards and broad, flaring falls. Strong stalks have modified
candelabra branching with 8 or more buds. Vigorous with great garden value.
36". ML. The pedigree is Frances Gaulter sib X H84-02A (a seedling with a
complex pedigree running back at least to the early 1950's).

I believe it was named for a family member (grandson?).
