Oh, Jeff! That is SO Elegant! PTOLOMEE! Wonder what the thing looked like,
really. I shall have to dig out the Vilmorin Chronicle and read up on it. I do
think half the fun of the oldies is the romantic names. Just wafts one right
away from the quotidien drudge into the Belle Epoque or the Second Empire or
whatever.

Donald, I'm hesitant to state categorically which iris will best match Thalo
Blue in some shade or tint as opposed to another blue pigment without the
blooms here to look at, but I think you might find that something in the range
defined by MEMPHIS BLUES and CHICO MAID in the moderns might be close. I am
sure you wouldl not have trouble matching it, although it looks close to black
straight out of the tube.

Now, if you just want to bump off your brother and you can't still get him to
eat those daffs you might try any of the cadmium or the cobalt pigments.
Regrettably they have taken true vermilion off the market. It was a mercury
compound and capable of producing some very "picturesque" effects in this
line.
