I thought doges were the rulers of Venice! We have two poodles, one black
and one red. The latter is a pup, and chews on anything, leaving pencils,
books and slippers in a mess. Could the mess have anything to do with the
deep-seated verbal prejudice against dogs. We have the phrase "going to the
dogs", "dog eat dog", "dog-eared", etc. Somehow I like the suggestion that
we call the bad seedlings "warthogs". Lloyd Zurbrigg in Durham NC
