Cats dislike citrus odors. If you can find a product that contains citrus
oil (lemon, lime or orange), mix it with a little liquid soap and spray it
in the area several times a month. There are also commercial animal
repellents available that claim to do the job. Look at the ads in the backs
of most garden magazines.
Another idea would be to buy some lightweight garden netting (such as is
used to trellis peas and beans) and spread it over the beds that need
protection. The cats will not like tangling their feet in the netting.
