Re: Ensata by SIB cross's, and others

First off, way to go on the web page - It's great to see all the
pictures. I have a particular interest in the Beardless crosses. Did you take
precautions against self-pollination? It is essential to open the flowers just
before they would normally and remove the anthers from the pod parents-to-be.
Removal of the falls will prevent any accidental bee pollination. The source
pollen should also come from a protected flower. Otherwise there's no telling
what you will get. This is important for ANY beardless cross not just
interspecies.

Along these lines I have read that there has never been a successful
Bearded x Beardless, anybody know different ?

I am tempted to try some cross's with I. milesii using I. tectorum and
I. confusa, I have no idea if this will work - any opinions ?

Hi All,

I also hope to get enough additional information on the JS kids to put =
up a stat page for each one. I'm still not sure why the things are as =
fertile as they are, but I'm sure not going to tell these seedlings they =
can't do it. Germination on the seeds is great from all tests. It'll be =
interesting to hear from everyone who has some of the seeds how their =
results were. JS10's first batch of seedlings was planted out last =
spring and the tallest was around 8" when fall settled in. A few have =
checked out as definitely crossing to unrelated Sibs and one was crossed =
to the blue Sib pollen parent successfully.

If there's anyone who'd like to volunteer to do a chrom count, I'd like =
to hear from them. Meanwhile, I'm hoping to find someone at WSU or =
whatever that can do one on a bare bones budget (or free). :-)

Until then, if there's any question about these, don't be afraid to ask. =

Thanks for the help on the glitches and for all the nice comments.
