One Night Blooming Flower is the Angel's Trumpet. This relative of
Jimson Weed has large showy white flowers. I had this plant in Kentucky,
and it did well. It was perennial, as it would overwinter when mulched or
in sheltered sites. This species gets quite large, so give it room. It
also can be invasive since it reseeds heavily. This plant should be used
only with caution since it is poisonous to consume, as are most members of
the Potato Family. (Solanacea)
The blooms are very fragrant, and will attract Bees and sometimes
Hummingbirds well into the night. I did not bring any of this plant with
me since I was afraid of what could happen if it escaped from the garden.
It could become a terrible pest here in Florida. In fact, some communities
such as Vero Beach have banned it.
