OT:Clearly Off Topic Post

Why, hello there!

I am an Off Topic post! That is why I have that OT in the subject line. It is
put there so that people who are not interested in reading Off Topic posts can
delete it without reading it. Is this not a luminously ingenious system?

Now, if you are reading this and you DO enjoy an occasional Off Topic post,
know that you are not alone. There have been many interesting Off Topic
threads on the list, ranging from book bargains, to UPS strikes, to digital
cameras, to environmental issues, to garden history, to abherrant behaviour in
dogs, to intellectual property law to nonsense. Quel cornucopia! 

Now, most of us OT posts sadly cannot pretend to have the snap and verve of
the On Topic posts, but we do our very best  to add a savor to the congris,
especially in times of iris dearth. Many of OTs are refugees from other lists
where one can make no OT posts at all! Hard places they are, dour,
constricted, constrained, and lacking in normal flow and merriment; run by
martinets. We hope this nice list does not get like that.  

Of course, if you ARE reading this and you do NOT like Off Topic posts and
threads, well, you  have only yourself to blame! After all, it is quite
clearly labeled OT, and Off-Topic it clearly is!
