Yes, that was one of my early experiments.
I even wrote a brief article, more like a filler,
about it. The trick is to enter each cultivar
as a set of twins, one male & one female,
to track its performance as pod parent and
pollen parent. =
That was enough to prove the concept, but
not as convenient as I'd like, so I wrote my
own set of programs to manage the database
and produce ancestor & descendant charts.
A few years ago, I switched over to Ralph
Holmes' package -- easier than converting
my own programs for a new computer.
The main difference is that the programs
I wrote (and shared with other hybridizers)
were designed for my own use and therefore
required some computer expertise to run.
Ralph's package is menu-driven, designed
for anyone who knows how to turn on a
computer and type the start command.
