Here's another significant point of
confusion some encounter  in using
the older Checklists:

Before 1950, the first date given =

was the date of introduction (or N. =

if not introduced) and the second
one (preceded by R.) was the date
of registration.  It was not uncommon
for a cultivar to be introduced before
it was registered.

Since 1950, the first date (preceded
by R.) is the registration date and =

the second, if any, is the date of
introduction.
