At the risk of muddying the waters, may I ask if you are certain you have not
been given a start of Bletilla striata, a hardy orchid with ribbed leaves not
unlike an iris and a nodding flower in rose or white which is recognizably an
orchid? Rather a lot of it around. I have it in white and also in the
variegatedleaf form myself.
