We are having a tremendous amount of rain this fall and winter and it
has many of my bulbs rotting :-( I've been trying to do some
preventative maintainance. I either lost ZERZURA or DAWN CARESS, and I
have lost several histriodes and reticulatas, as well as fritillaries.
:-( While most of these like SOME winter water, we're talking way to
much for our clayey soil (adobe in summer, muck in wet)...
So anyway I was out putting tags on my Iris when I was dumbstruck with
the sudden sight of a BLOOMSTALK on my bearded iris. It was like coming
across a woman about to give birth! I immediately started clearing away
some of the fallen leaves from the trees (been busy, need to do more)...
anyway....
the winner is TEA LEAVES, which I got from Rick this last late summer /
early fall. I hope the weather continues mild enough for it to bloom.
Yesterday I noticed that despite the mild wet winter that a restaurant
here has some kind of dwarf or intermediate etc. white iris in bloom!
First of all I didn't think that these iris did very well here & second
I thought they needed a chill requirement. Certainly hasn't had the
latter. The flower was bearded but small in proportion to the leaves
(fan) and had a small yellow blaze at the top of the falls.
Anyway, thought I'd let you know. I don't remember if TEA LEAVES was VE
or not, but it don't matter in the garden.
