HIPS: envy, color codes

Oh, I wish I'd been there! Any chance of putting the slide show with
commentary on the net?

Welcome back Mike. Now to see some pictures of REAL flowers and work on
some McAllister homework some more (deciphering the pre-40s color
chart).

My latest 'discovery' is that even though some of the 'boxes' in the 30s
and 40s color chart are 'X'ed out (I assume that means there are
supposedly no such iris), some introductions used those codes anyway.
For example, GREEN PASTURES, 1945, Y1L.

Also, the bitone and plicata codes in the 50s and 60s seemed to be
improvised so that the last part of the code, instead of being L, M, or
D to indicate light, medium or dark, was often (always?) a color code
instead. For example, NINEVAH, 1965, V3RV violet standards, bitone,
?red-violet falls?; LATIN LOVER, 1969, RV3PF red-violet standards,
bitone, ?purple falls?; ROCOCCO, 1959, W2B, white standards, plicata,
?blue plicata marks on falls?.

Did I miss something in the 50s and 60s R&I's or are these
'non-standard' codes?

The sun was out today! Of course, that means a hard freeze tonight.
Species crocuses blooming and one hepatica open up in the woods.

Larry D - good to hear from you again.
