Dear fellow irisarians,
At the Denver AIS convention (in the late afternoon on the day before the
welcome banquet) there is going to be a new meeting--of presidents and officers
of local societies affiliated with AIS. The intent is to have an exchange of
problems and solutions in all the areas which affect local clubs: getting new
members, raising money, program topics, doing more for and getting more from AIS
and region, expanding interest beyond TBs; etc.
I proposed the meeting after seeing how much iris-l members helped each other
with just a few email messages, and wondering how to extend both the
contributors and beneficiaries. It seemed that if a fairly small group could
help each other, a larger group could help more, and an AIS convention would be
the largest grouping.
The AIS board agreed to have the meeting, and the hosts have been able to
schedule it. Shirley Pope, AIS Affiliates Chair will be sending me a list of the
locals and their presidents.
After I get the updated list of clubs I will be sending out snail and email on
what is planned for the meeting and asking about the interest in the meeting.
Since ther is no precident I am not sure exactly how the meeting should go. My
current plan is to have a panel with 4 to 6 presidents/representatives, with a
wide variety of locations and sizes, making initial comments on agenda items,
followed by audience comments.
I would be glad to hear from iris-l members about any clubs with specific
problems or with brilliant solutions to former problems they had. If the meeting
succeeds it will need a lot of help from you and others.
