Older forms of bearded irises (some beardless, too) tended to be narrow of
parts with a tendency for the falls to droop and the standards to flop
open. The substance was thin and the form was tailored. Modern tastes in
irises tend to favor crisp, ruffled parts with substance that keep the
flower intact throughout its bloom cycle. However, there are irises of
character with the older form that continue to dazzle today. In many
cases, form is a matter of preference. I still grow many with the 'older'
form.

Virginia, did you get enough answers to your question on landscape
irises?
