In their native habitat which is around the Mediterranean they are
dormant during the summer. This is probably why your spring planting
was slow to establish. They were waiting for cool, rainy weather. I
found that late summer/early fall is best. Don't wait too long since
they start blooming in Nov. I would say Sept/Oct is a good time or
watch for new growth to start.
