Yes, I am shuddering at the thought and have been for the past three
years since I read that theory. I.versicolor is very prevalent here
but I and other iris growers have never encounterd borers in this
dastardly cold climate.
I know that they are common in Zones 4 - Zone 7 (a) and since it
appears that Zones 7b and up too warm (hot) for them, I wonder if
Zones 3 (a & b) are too cold (frozen) for them as well? It is almost
too cold for people. :-)
Folks in Zones 4 - 7 have to contend with freeze - thaw cycles and
the borer. This frozen wasteland is looking good today re iris and
other sundry plants. Now, if we just had one more month of frost-
free weather......
